reads:
"Fifteen hundred German families then living in central and western Poland signed up for the trek to Bess. . They came, nearly all of them, in the summer of 1814; in caravans, in wagons and on foot, some groups with leaders, some without, carrying documents given them by "Commissar" Krueger, entitling [sic] them to care and protection by the Russian officialdom [sic]. Arrived in Bessarabia, some of them had to wait for two years quartered in Moldavian villages...But by 1816 they were settled in twelve villages in the valley of the Kogelnik in south central Bessarabia.
"The first 200 families were taken to...Tarutino and Borodino, shortly after their arrival in the summer of 1814."
