#2: Do you have a great story or stories about one of our classmates or your children / grandchildren which you'd like to share?

I have no great stories, but I do have eight wonderful grandchildren! Four of the boys (teens) are involved in sports, the girls are totally absorbed in Barbie dolls, except for one who has just joined Girl Scouts. And my five month old grandson is just too sweet. They are all great, hmmm, thinking that sounds like a doting grandmother.>>

<< OK Chief: Here are my answers to the questions of the week. Gee this is like a test I didn't read the assignment again.

#1 I can say I have not seen any UFO's. I have seen what my neighbors thought was a UFO but it turned out to be Ultra Light aircraft flying at night with running lights. There were 4 of them flying in formation very low to the ground. Are there UFO's? Maybe there are. I just have not seen any yet. Why is that? If aliens abduct people, why do they pick the one's in New Mexico or Arizona. Why not Sacramento, or Acampo, or even Woodbridge.

#2. Do I think we should go to war with Iran? Not right now. I think we should have attached Iraq last year. I think Jordan should be put on notice and also North Korea. When you attack the United States, I think heads should roll. We should also take over the Oil production in Iraq and run it for the next 20 years. We should employ the local residents and allow them to rebuild their nations on a democratic basis, with local representation. WE should also foster industrialization in the nation and show how the 21st. century can be built in this county.

#3 As for a Thanksgiving story, I remember as a child going to my Grandmother Ehrhardt, house for a Thanksgiving Dinner with all of my Uncles and Aunts and cousins. It was great time and the food was the best. My very special food was the Dumblin Soup with Noodles. Grandma always made her own noodles and dumplins, by hand. Rich? You bet, but was it good. The aroma would wander through the house and would anounce that Dinner was about to start. I wish more families could have that same experience. It was a great bonding of the family.

AS for Photo's I'll get looking for some.

<< I have never seen a UFO. The most dramatic thing along those lines was back in about 1964 when I saw a rocket fired off from Vandenburg in the very early morning. It was so beautiful. It was a silvery white trail against a very beautiful pre-sunrise sky looking to the west.

I think that if the UN is unable to get inspectors into Iraq very soon and once there cannot do a thorough, unrestricted job then we should go to war. Normally I would of been just go in there and take out the threats since it doesn't appear that Iraq will allow full, unfettered inspections. But now with the way our economy is, and thinking about the enormous cost of a war that would further tax our coiffers I am concerned about our country financially going down the tubes. I personally have not been 100% convinced that Iraq has mass produced atomic weapons. What about Iran, North Korea and some of the others having these weapons. We're not going to war with them. I also think about our alllies not being 100% for us going into Iraq to wage war. Bottom line I think that Iraq is dragging its feets to allow more time to hide their weapons of mass destruction if they do have them. And I don't believe they will ever allow UN inspectors to do a thorough job. Iraq also knows that if most of the world is against the US going in to wage war that they can go along doing what the've been doing and not have to allow inspections.

With all the things all our grand children have accomplished in school we are proud of all of them. I would like to specially mention our youngest daughter's daughter Madeliene "Maddie" Martin. She has done so well in school this last year. She made the Deans Honor Roll 4 times. She is also in cheer and is in Jazz and tap dancing>>

<< I guess my Thanksgiving story is just being with family and being thankful for all that we have and for our families continued well being. Thanksgiving being part of fall with its beautiful leaves and crisp weather. It can be foggey or overcast outside,as so many thanksgiving have been that I remember, but can be even more cheery inside sitting down to that Turkey Dinner with family and being thankful for all that we have. I would like to share a recent photo of my wife Patty and I at Patty's 40th high school reunion we attended here in Fresno. She graduated from Dos Palos High in Dos Palos, Ca (near Fresno). This was my wife's first reunion she ever attended.

<<Aloha Judy

Shame on me for waiting so long to write! Thank you so much for taking on this project. Your efforts are appreciated although we probably don't tell you often enough.

A couple of the questions you pose did evoke a reaction . . . like the question of war . . . hmmm . . . yes, I too am a Vietnam-era veteran. No, I don't agree with what seems to be happening . . . enough said.

Other stories . . . living on Maui . . . it's kinda like the rest of the world eventually comes to visit here! Connie Fanos (dunno what year she graduated) is here now. She mentioned that while in Lodi recently she mentioned she'd be seeing me . . . said that Patricia Payton remembers . . .hmmm.

It's been great to see the pictures and comments about "toys" that have arrived recently (giggle).

Fer a little glimpse of my life here . . . on Sundays I'm at the console of the organ at Keawala`i Church in Makena . . . www.keawalai.org and several nights during the week I work "backstage" at a magic club in Lahaina . . .www.hawaiimagic.com . . . ("hover & click" on the Queen for a "clue")

Thanx again, Judy and everyone, for all the time & effort to help us all stay in touch. Do let me know when you'll be visiting our island!>>

I didn't write down who sent the following photograph but thought it might be the right photo for this section since we're talking about a coming war with Iraq.

#1: Have you ever seen a UFO...?. If not, how, about something you have seen and you'd like to share it with us.

This question has an interesting quality.  When you see the word UFO,  you may have laughed and there were a few very humorous e-mails which you've already read before getting to my letter.  Although I had asked this to gain your attention,  it is, also, a serious question.  There are people who have seen UFOs who haven't been drinking too much valley wine ....  Unfortunately, the few real sightings of a UFOs  [which means Unidentified Objects]  are mixed in with sightings of those who think magnets are going to scramble their brains even more..... I know several people who have seen UFOs and I believe that they did see something.  But, what exactly did they see, I don't know?  The one person who told me about the UFOs he and his friend saw,  lived not far from a  naval base.  I assume they were seeing something that's being created by our Uncle Sam and one of these days we'll know about it, if it's successfully in flight.  The other friend was with her two daughters.  They had not been drinking. All three saw the same object which they felt might have been a spaceship of some kind. That night when I asked the question, there on CNN was  a report of missile flying passed a passenger airplane taking off from an airport.  At first people though it was a missle but when the film was enlarged the missie looked like a rod with fins.....  What was it??  Real?  Hoax??  My mind immediately thought,  someone is playing another one of their jokes.  Then,  my one son comes in the room and tells me about this  "thing"  [long skinny squid-line rod] which has been sighted by others and captured on film by others....  I'm waiting to see what direction the CNN follow up will be on this "rod" sighting. Or will they drop it like a hot potato. And, to tell the truth, if I did see a UFO,  I'm not sure I'd have the courage to tell anyone.

#Do you think we should go to war with Iraq?

If it's war then it's war. No one really wins in war but we can't let a bully take us out with his arms of mass destruction because if we do  we're dead like all those people in the World Trade Center.

#2: Do you have a great story or stories about one of our classmates or your children / grandchildren which you'd like to share?

Let me see,  I have a lot of stories about my grandchildren.  I think one of my favorites is about my one granddaughter Katie who at the time was four.  A friend of mine asked her how old she was and Katie said six.  It was her brother who was six so  I said,  "Katie,  you know you are not six."  She sternly replied, "I will be in two years."  Now,  that I've mentioned one I should mention the other three to be fair.  Marin [Mar.in] is the oldest as is 10. During one of our sailing trips a couple of years ago,  Marin was with us. She must have been about eight. Garry was discovering a good wind and our boat was going faster and faster.  I could tell Marin was getting to be worried since the boat was heeling pretty far over so I asked if she was all right.  She had in her arms her favorite stuffed animal known as Biscuit.  Marin shook her head and then said,  "But Biscuit is getting a little worried." Garry got the hint and we slowed down.  Our only grandson is Jake.  He loves to track down anything that crawls, slithers or flies so our two acres in an oak grove is perfect for him.  One afternoon he found a huge spider web.  I sternly stress he had to be careful because it was a black widow spider's web.  He wanted to know how I knew.  I said touch the web with a stick, he did, and the black widow darted out think she had a fly....  I showed him a garden spider and it's web and then found a trapdoor  spider and it's web , near by this was a tarantula's ground hole.... and then a fiddler spider and it's web.....  He said, "Grandma you sure know everything."  I smiled and thanked him and knew this kid is smart and it won't be long and he'll know more than I will about these insects, bugs and little critters who's importance has never been very high on my list of things to know.  However, because we have so many different spiders in this grove of trees,  I did make an effort to discover which ones were dangerous and which ones were not.  A few minutes later,  he was discovering a salamander and a skeleton of a scorpion.....  We had a successful day,  I thought, and said so, but he signed and replied,  "I was hoping to see a snake today."  He handed me a shovel.  "Let's go find one in the garden."  I made a lot of noise hoping the snakes would get the hint that this grandma didn't particularly want to find them that day.  I prefer the lizard we captured.  Jake was happy.  I was happy.  And, Mom arrived so down the stairs were sent full of stories about our adventures for the afternoon. The fourth grandchild is just a few months old, give her time, she's a Hubert, so,  we'll have plenty stories about her soon enough

.Stories about classmates.  Probably the night everyone but me seemed to have gone out to Pat's vineyard for a class party.  I was driving my folk's new '59 Pontiac and had been told I couldn't drive it out of the city limits, or,  I'd never drive it, again.  So,  everyone piled out of the Pontiac and they went into other cars that headed out for the party.  I drove alone up and down the "drag"___ and ended up finally meeting an older fellow who I had been eyeing but it ended up he wanted to talk about his girl  with whom he wanted to regain as a girlfriend.... Oh, well, such is life... Didn't hang around long and went home early.  Had a great night sleep. The next morning,  the headlines in the newspapers shouted out to all that the police had raided the party.  I don't recall the number arrested....  The phones in Lodi were ringing with the news of who was there, who wasn't and who hid in the vineyards and didn't get caught.... I use to have the newspaper article around here somewhere but can't find it.  Maybe,  the rest of you could add to this story.

# 3: Do you have a Thanksgiving story that you'd care to share?

Back in the "olden days", my mother's and my father's family would all manage to be at our house as the turkey was placed on the table..  It was a happy time with the house filled with all the smells of turkey, gravy, mash potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and freshly whipped cream. People were laughing and talking to each other as if no one had ever had an argument   Now, my older son, Douglas,  and his wife , Cindy, have Thanksgiving.  They have tried to keep all the traditions of each of the families.  The Germans had never had turnip caserole made by the Finish  great grandmother.  We tried it and liked it.  The Serbian grandmother made her special dish.  We tried it and we liked it.  I made my turkey dressing. People said they liked it.  My Mom made her pumpkin pie but the fresh cream is out of cans to make things simple.  The first couple of years, Douglas, made two different turkeys, now,  he just makes one big one....  Douglas likes to cook and is quite good.  My younger son, Devin, who, also, likes to cook,  makes his special green salad.  It's not like any of us had before but it's  really good and, it's traditional, now. This year his daughter get's to be part of our celebration.  Her mother gets her next year. Divorce isn't ideal but one has to make the best of what we can.  Scattered on the table are leaves of red and gold from the maple trees in their neighborhood.  My older son's two children and his wife make a trip every Thanksgiving morning to find these leaves.  So,  the old takes up with the new and the new becomes the traditional Thanksgiving.  I hope everyone out there has a  Happy Thanksgiving.  I know I will.
