Lodi

All of us have gone through the Lodi Arch,  I thought I start with this historical point.  Ed and Fred Cary built not one but two arches across Pine Street in 1907 for the Tokay Carnival which occurred 19 to 21 Sept..  One was permanent arch, the one you see on this postcard image, and another, by the buildings, also, across Pine Street,  which was made of wood and torn down after the carnival.  The design was E.B. Brown of Stockton.  The original arch did not have a bear, however, it would gain one when some pranksters stole the bear statue from the Native Sons of the Golden West Club in Stockton and placed in on top of the arch.  The article doesn't mention the year this occurred.  In 1938 the tattered bear was replaced with the donation of the Lodi Chapter of the Native Sons of the Golden West.

In this postcard is shown a sign hanging under the arch which says, "For 100 % Americans".  Does anyone know for whom this was hung?  Looking at the cars this had to have been in the early  1920s. .
