E-mail: 30 Sept 1999 I caught a communication generated by Clara Mary and Tom Stangle referencing the surnames of LEHR and MAIER. The LEHR surname is in my extended family and the MAIER surname is in direct line. Following is what I have and if anyone has connection to these ancestors, I would enjoy a communication and possibly the opportunity to share information. LEHR - what I have appears to be from the McPherson Co., SD and Brown Co., SD area and it appears these may be family still living so I will not list their names.
MAIER (MEIER, MEYER) - We've seen this name spelled numerous ways. We have Johannes MAIER who married Barbara GAINSINGER. They produced a son, Anton MEIER on 1/16/1777 in Edenkoben, Pfalz, Germany. He died is Russia. Anton married Anna Barbara AKER (b. 7/20/1776 in Edenkoben, Pfalz, Germany) - her parents were Phillip Anthon AKER (b. 5/11/1738 in Edenkoben, Pfalz, Germany) and Marie Elisabeth DEHOFF. Phillip Anthon AKER's parents were Phillip Lorenz AKER and Anna Barbara GREBERLIN. Back to Anton MEIER and Anna Barbara AKER - their children: Heinrich MEIER (b. abt. 1802) Theobold MEIER (b. abt. 1804) Johan Georg MEIER (b. 3/16/1812 in Worms, Ukraine, Russia) Jakob MEIER (b. abt. 1815) My direct line then comes through Johan Georg MEIER (b. 3/16/1812 in Worms, Ukraine, Russia). He married Catherine SONDEREGGER (b. Switzerland) on 7/31/1834 in Worms, Ukraine, Russia. Their children: Anna Dorthea MEIER (b. 5/19/1835 in Worms, Ukraine, Russia) Johann Heinrich MEIER (b. 3/6/1837 in Worms, Ukraine, Russia) Catheirne MEIER (b. 5/15/1839 in Worms, Ukraine, Russia) Anton MEIER (b. 3/1/1842 in Worms, Ukraine, Russia) Jacob MEIER (b. 5/12/1844 in Worms; d. 6/11/1844 in Worms) Georg MEIER (b. 5/31/1845 in Worms) Barbara MEIER (b. 7/20/1847 in Worms)
Barbara MEIER continues my direct line. She married Georg Balthasar GALL on 12/17/1866 in Worms, Russia. (She died 8/14/1933 in Fairfax, Gregory Co., SD).
Barbara MEIER and Georg Balthasar GALL were my Great Grand Parents.
The spelling of Barbara's surname has been varied - I've found MAIER, MEIER and MEYER.
I would enjoy communicating with anyone with connections to any of the above names. I am always glad to add to my knowledge of my ancestors and share what I have found. Joe Thurstenson, Siloam Springs, AR Website: no longer is up and running

Thanks for your note. Yes, we probably do have a common ancestor, though I couldn't find one just now. I have two families from Edenkoben, all data supplied by my wife'ssecond cousin, who lives in Germany. More research needs to be done on these. Maria Katharina KERNER, born 6 Jan 1757 in Edenkoben, died 7 Apr 1798 in Rhodt, married Georg Christoph LUTZ of Rhodt (born 27 May 1745 in Rhodt, died 3 Feb 1798 in Rhodt), on 28 Jan 1782 in Rhodt. One child known, Georg Jacob LUTZ, born 21 Jan 1783 in Rhodt, died 4 Feb 1843 in Rhodt. All these were Lutherans. Hans Heinrich WERNER was also from Edenkoben. His daughter, Margaretha WERNER, was born about 1635 in Rhodt, died 5 Feb 1705 or 6 Feb 1704 in Rhodt, married Jakob LUTZ (Dorfmeister, born in Siebeldingen, died 12 Feb 1690 in Rhodt). They had two known children: Philipp Jakob LUTZ, born 29 Apr 1671, died 5 Nov 1728, all in Rhodt, and Georg Wilhelm LUTZ, born 21 Apr 1669. These were also all Lutherans. I notice in your pages you have a +Heinrich Werner, "Schreiner" Êb. 1638 m. Elisabeth Krauss. If he is Lutheran, it is possible that he is a son of my Hans Heinrich WERNER. Anyway, thanks for writing. Your website is very nice, worthy of a bookmark! Let me know if you think we have an overlap here. Regards,Jim Eggert. Letter from Joan Reed
JOANREED
#1 -I agree about the Thirty Years War and other things affecting the population. In fact, Neidenstein was almost completely wiped out at that time, and our Romig was born there later, so his family almost surely came from somewhere else looking for housing and work. Then they moved down to Ittlingen, then to PA in 1732. I am going to Germany ...., and will meet with two Romich sisters that still live in Ittlingen. They are elderly and never married. I am meeting another "Romig" distant cousin (from 7 - 8 generations back) for the first time on this trip (her name is Carolyn), and she and I will be meeting in Ittlingen. She lives in Boston and I live in Colorado. But she met my first cousin in October in Allentown, PA, and I was there visiting my first cousin the next week. Small world. Due to the Internet, we have established a relationship. Carolyn has more data than I do, and she wants to write a book on the Romigs. I am just interested as a hobby. I am the 10th generation Romig in America, and 8 generations before me were born just outside Allentown within a 10 mile radius. We found all but one of the burial sites in October. The first two generations were born in Germany and were buried on their farms, the 3rd is lost (we're still looking for any records, in case he moved out of the area in his later years), the 4th on are in cemeteries around Allentown. But my dad moved away and he joined the Army, married my mom when he was stationed in Berlin, so I was born in Berlin. It is amazing to see the whole line still in the area..... |
Letter #2 Joan Reed 22 APRIL 1999:
...You could say that it was Johann Adam Romich who brought his family to Allemangel, Pennsylvania (Lynn Township) from Ittlingen, Germany in 1732. Thanks, Joan |

To: remmick@aol.com Subject: Edenkoben and Rhodt unter Rietburg family history Date: Sat, 18 Sep 2004 12:19:04 -0700 Dear Remmick family researcher, I am so impressed by your wealth of information about your Remmick lineage. What a great compilation. I enjoyed reading through it very much. I descend from the Palatinate families Rhoads/Rhoades/Rhodes/Rodes/Roth/Rhodt/Rodez and Rheinhardt/ & variations of Rhodt unter Rietburg, very near Edenkoben, and also of Mannheim. I just returned from a family history vacation in Germany and was able to find Rhodt (no easy task) and drove right through Edenkoben on the way. What an extraordinary place. People there are living in houses built in the 1600s, and still selling wine out of their kitchens. We had an absolutely fabulous time. My peple came to the US in the 1730s either on the ship William or the ship Restauration (the issue is unter hot debate.) Anyway, they were there in Rhodt for at least a hundred years. Heinrich Rhodes b. 1711 was a farmer & surveyor, so he would have fit right in to grape growing and wine making. I was able to bring home the ultimate souvenier...a six pack of Pfalz wine from the kitchen of a local man named "Herbert." Sweet, delicious, and inexpensive...and so much fun tasting the samples in the traditional, private home wine tasting room. Anyway, I am seeking more lineage, more informatin about my Rheinland Pfalz family history. Can you put me in touch with your sources who found the local record in Edenkoben. maybe they can help me get more specific info on my Rhodes and Reinhardt relatives. Thanks for a great web site. Judi Brooks
