to Neudorf / Od. S. Russia in 1810. For a time, the couple , Johan and Christine,
lived with his mother and step-father who owned a general store. John
told stories how he use to travel with his grandfather to Tiraspol to pick
up supplies......Later Johann was a carpenter in Neudorf and produced wines
and whiskeys which he sold to the people in the colony. Because of Johann's
sucess he didn't want to leave Neudorf but his wife insisted they migr. with
her parents because events in Russia were not showing great promise ....
In Jan. 1901 they migr. and sailed from Brement Port in Germany to
New York on the ship The Karlsruhe. From New York they took a train
to SD and settled on a farm in McPherson County which was six miles north
of Hosmer.
