Bergstraesser Family Letters
In a message dated 11/3/03 12:33:37 PM, GVLESS writes: << Hi, Judy - I just took a quick look at your website. I will definitely want to do more later tonight. You have done a tremendous job in putting all you have researched on this site. You are to be commended for it. I just wish I had your energy to do with the Bergstraesser stuff that my husband and I had collected in our research and published in a book a couple of years ago. I guess I just need to be your age to do this. Right now I want to continue my research on my own family (Volga Deutsch - Norka famlies) as well as do something with my husband's LESS name. We had not done his paternal side when working with the B. family lines. I promised him before he died (last March after a brief illness) that I would do my best to find something in the German-Polish areas that we believe they came from before they landed in Volhynia. Because of you and finding others in the Borodino Bergstraesser family lines we were able to connect those lines to the ones that stayed in Russia Poland (near Lodz) before some in that line went on into Volhynia. It was unbelievable all the things we did find out on this large B. family and the contacts we were able to make, their cooperation in sharing etc. In case you didn't know, or realize, in this B. family that came into Borodino, Johannes (who married Barbara (Otterstaetter) Bergstraesser was the brother of one who stayed in central Poland. It is out of that family in Russia Poland that my husband's g-grandfather was born. (His name too was Johann!) Johannes' father was Johann Valentin B (married to Maria Susanna Elisibieta Huxel) who died in Borodino. We are not sure if Maria Huxel had died in Poland before Johann and his son, Johannes came to Borodino. She is not listed as having arrived in Borodino in the Stumpp book. I will check my files on this family to see if your info is the same. Our book that was published was titled the "Wandering Bergstraesser Clan, the Story of Johann and Juliana (Vogel) Bergstraesser). We did put in a chapter though on the earlier history of the B. family that included the Bessarabian Bergstraesser families. Anyway, I just wanted to write you to acknowledge all the work you have done. You have provided future researchers with a lot of wonderful information. Sincerely, Virginia Less >> |

Judy's note: May have missed changing over some subscript notes. If you see a date looking like 180012, the first four numbers are the date and the last numbers are supose to look like this 180012. The #12 refers to endnotes. Or I may have a name such as Johan2 which should read Johan2.... Again, the #2 ref. to endnotes....
