Russia.  See history of Jews in Odessa.  Julia had written about the family migr. to Russia in a diary which was inherited with a great deal of wealth by .Michael Hein, who's son Ludwig Hein (b. 1885 in Borodino) brought her diary to this county, USA.  Ludwig's son, Richard Hein recalls part of in this diary which he had read and wrote about in his own book "THE SINS OF OUR LEADERS". . And I quote some of it here from  pps.36-37.:  "In 1807...these people who had fled from German to Russia, were now running from the Turks and from Napoleon." "As the German settlers had few guns and as the war with the Turks began, the German settlers were supplying he Russian army with food, and stayed just enough to the rear of the Russians to keep out of reach of direct gunfire.  She went on to say that the Turks played " dirty" as a deal had been made that they would not fire on one another at night." "...just as the Russians began to cook dinner, the Turks would fire their cannons.  Expecting this, the Russians moved back just out of range of the Turk's cannon fire.  As the Russians cannons could shoot farther than the cannons of the Turks, she could hear the Turks yell 'Allah, Allah'. This they could hear for miles and miles."   This she would always remember when  she and her husband would travel to Turkey ..  She m. abt 1813.  Julia and husband, a Jewish spice merchant, were quite a combination as they traveled the world.  The conflict mention was the Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812.  The Treaty of Bucharest gave Bessarabia to the Russian Empire. .  Bessarabia is where the Hager's would settle but first they had headed to the Black Sea port of Odessa. There they would gain the proper permissions and be given the right to settle as colonists in Bessarabia in a village known as Leipzig.   She went on to write that Napoleon was marching toward Moscow...  "This was 1812..."  "Now the governor of Odessa had ordered 1,000 Cossacks .. to Odessa to be a counterattack force."  "The rest of the Cossacks were already in the northern location of Russia."  The Battle of Borodino took place and Field Marshal Kutuzov, the hero of the army which the Hager's had followed into Russia earlier,  retreated through Moscow as he gave  giving the word that all citizens should leave and let Napoleon have Moscow.  This maneuver was little understood, but,  it was a brilliant (some believe it was a desperate) move on Kutuzov's part.  Napoleon entered and thought he'd take up winter quarters in Moscow but somewhere a group of men set fire and Moscow started to burn.... Napoleon and his army retreated. Napoleon desserted his troops and headed back to Paris leaving   thousands of his men to fend for themselves.  An early snow  and  guerilla warfare sent a huge number of Napoleon men to their grave....  Back to the story of Julia's as remembered by Richard.  ":The plague came to the regions... "  The Odessa governor,  duc de Ridelieu , who served from 1803 to his return to Paris in 1814,  imposed complete quarantine on Odessa and placed troops to prevent anyone leaving or entering the city.  Only  "..six people died, " Julia wrote  according to Richard in his own book.  "The French invaders in Moscow were dying and soon most of the French army was dying.  so the people were praying, both day and night, this transformed the people of that area into devout Christians." I called Richard after reading this in his book, and,  we had a conversation as to who Julia was.  He claimed she was his great great aunt. [NOTE: Richard should have added one more "great". She was his great great great aunt.] He didn't know how to spell her name so he gave her the name Beverley which sounded like the name he remembered.  My mother, Lillian, Richard's sister,  remembered her name as aunt Julia.  No one can remember Julia Beaivaos's [Beverly] Hager/Hoeger's husband's name.  I have just begun research the  history of the Jews who lived in Odessa in the  late 1700s and early 1800s.  Julia was old enough to remember the Russo-Turkish War in 1807-1812 so she had to have been at least  eight  to fifteen years or older.  She wrote in a diary which means she was educated.  She was baptized and had lived in the Evangelical Lutheran community  but loved and married a Jew.  Did she meet her husband while in Odessa?  I do not know the answer.   She and her husband traveled the world. My mother's memory is having heard these stories from her mother who  recalled  that Julia had written about crocodiles in the Nile....   
    • There were no children born of this union.  When Julia died, part of her fortune was inherited by her brother's, Johann Hager/ Hoeger's (b. 1790) daughter's , Elizabeth., nee Hager (b. 1815), Hein's son, Michael Hein of Borodino / Bess. b. 21 Feb 1844 Borodino / Bess., This would have been  about  1866, which is about the time Michael bought 1/3 of the Heim Chutor [Persijanowka] n. Borodino / Bess., S. Russia.  [Note:  I am not sure about the legality of inheritance in Russia at that time.  She may have died about this time, or, it had been held in trust until Michael came of age which was probably between the age of 18 and 21 which would have been about 1865.  I believe the youngest son would have inherited in Russia.  Michael  Hein's youngest brother Josef was b. in 1851 so Julia may have died before Josef was born in 1851 and Michael's name would have been on the trust not Joseph's.  Strange thing is, Joseph's name never was spoken in our family, so, I'm not even sure Joseph was Elisabeth's son.  Georg's last two children listed in Borodino are Maria b. 1846 and Joseph b. 1851.  These two children may have been born by another wife, who was also carrying the name Elizabeth.  We do know Georg was married more than once.  It is thought that Elizabeth died in 1844.  There is a record which tells us Georg's wife Elisabeth died May 1852.  He rem.  25 Sept 1852 to  widow Christina , nee Bojachinski / Boschatski, Stickel. -----I'll be back and rewrite all of this when I know more answers.]  
    • Jews in Odessa, S. Russia --  There were  5 Jews who  asked to build houses, shops and gardens in Odessa in 1794 . When Russians took official possession of this area, Jews were part of the town's administration.  The Jewish graveyard held a head stone  dated as early as 1770.  The population increased to 240 by  1794.  The majority  of Jews were from the western part of the Ukrine which was the eastern European region of Galicia's [Halych] city of Brody, known as the Jewish Jerusaslem of the Polish [later Austrian Empire], which gave them the nickname of "broder" and Germany.   By  1813 there were 30,000.  One of their early leaders was B. Stern, who believed  all people, boys, girls and elders , should be educated and that they were all equally important.  Because Odessa became a free port, it's diverse population (Russian, Armenians,  Greek, Turks, Tatars, Polish, French, English and Jews) brought in all kinds of trades, businesses,  world banks, etc. etc.  to Odessa and the area. Religious houses of all kinds were built.  The first synagogue had been built back in 1798....  Import and export thrived with great vigor.  Culture was important for everyone.  Theaters, Opera House, etc. were built. The hatred for Jews rose it's ugly head in Odessa in the years of 1821, 1859, 1871, 1881 and the most server was in 1905..

[Dahl's NOTES: See films 1184762, and 1272860 for Ochsenburg and Linkenheim Evelyn Cedergren of Sacramento reports that on this second film, part IV, page 120, you will find this fellows birth in 1729.  He has been listed as being born in 1726 (perhaps was a younger brother who died at an erly age)."
