Elisaetha Hoeger b. abt 1826, dau. of Michael Hoeger.   In the 1835 Borodino Census it has her living with Friedrich and Julianna Wiege.  Her age was 9 years old.  It appears that she is the step-daughter to Friedrich Wiege, age 31..   Julianna may have been the widow of Michael Hoeger.  It does not give us her maiden name, only her age as being 31.

Jacob Hoeger was born September 9, 1871 in Borodino, Bessarabia, Russia. He married Katherina Schock (born June 17, 1874 in Russia), the daughter of Christoph and Christina (nee Hein) Schock.

Jacob farmed while in Russia, but his main job was shoemaking. They lived in the village of Jakobstal, Bessarabia where 9 children were born, six of whom died there (these were all girls and included a set of twins).

In October of 1909, Jacob, his wife Katherina and three children: Reinhold (my father) who was 17, Christina 15, and Emma 5, came into the United States via Canada. They left from Libau, Russia and boarded the ship ÒS.S. AtheniaÓ in Glasgow and docked in the port of Halifax. They then took the Canadian Pacific Railroad to Detroit, MI. The shipÕs record shows that they were all in the shipÕs hospital - most likely all of them suffered from seasickness. (Katherina was also pregnant at the time.) Their destination was Harvey, North Dakota where their son, Rudolph was born in November of 1909 (he still points out that ÒIf they had arrived later, he may have been born on the ship, making him a man without a countryÓ.) They also added another son (Israel b. 3-23-1912 Harvey, ND, d. 1-5-1994 Stockton, CA) and daughter (Esther b. 12-11-1914 Harvey, ND, still living in Lodi, CA).

Jacob's parents, Johann W. Hoeger (b. 12-26-1846 Russia, d. 1928 Lodi, CA) and Katrina (nee Fuller/ Fueller) Hoeger (b. 4-9-1852 Borodino, d. 7-1-1922 Twin Township, SD) came to the United States previously (1905). The following brothers of Jacob also arrived in the U.S. earlier:

  1. John J. Hoeger b. 5-27-1877 Borodino, d. 11-14-1918 Reeder, ND m. Othiella Marks, 2nd wife was Cathryne Bitzer Arrived in Halifax, Canada 4-10-1903, then immigrated to the U.S. March 15, 1904
  2. Gottlieb Hoeger b. 7-10-1888, d. 1960 m. Frieda Martin.  Gottlieb, Frieda and daughter Emma arrived in the U.S. December 1905 on the ship ÒStadendamÓ which sailed from Rotterdam and docked in New York.
  3. Daniel Hoeger b. 1899 Russia, d. 1955 Lodi, CA. m. Lydia Baumback. Daniel immigrated with their parents, Johann and Katrina in 1905.

Jacob also had the following sisters:

Catharina Hoeger b. 1-12-1873 Hoffnungstal

Christiana Hoeger b. 4-16-1874

Margaretha Hoeger b. 10-18-1878

Regina Hoeger b. 5-21-1882

(and possibly Louisa Hoeger b. 1889 - needs to be confirmed)

Jacob and his family farmed in Ruseland Township, Wells County North Dakota until the Fall of 1927 when they moved to Ralph, SD (Harding County). Sometime after the death of his wife, Katherina, who died November 16, 1934 in Ralph, SD, Jacob left for Lodi, CA and passed away there on July 1, 1951.

After a long battle with leukemia, Phillis died in the early morning hours of March 27, 2006. Up until her last days, she proudly showed off pictures of her three brand new great-grandsons.

Phillis was born in Sheridan, Wyo., to Oscar and Faye Hager, on April 27, 1928. Phillis grew up on her parents' ranch, located on the Little Big Horn in Wyola. She had fond memories of social gatherings of family and friends on the family ranch. She graduated from Lodge Grass High School with honors.

She met the love of her life during this time, and married Riney Lind on Dec. 21, 1945. Together, they spent 50 years farming, raising their family and buying and selling antiques.

Phillis lived for her family and friends. She loved gardening, quilting, reading and watching her grandchildren grow. Phillis will be remembered for her strength and caring nature.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Faye Hager; and her brother, Harold Hager.

Phillis is survived by her husband, Riney; her brothers, Everett Hager of Cody, Wyo., Oscar Hager Jr. of Sheridan; and sister, Ruth Bzoski of Tempe, Ariz.; her children, Nancy Oakes (Bruce) of Bozeman, Doug Lind of Billings, Mary Fear (Mark) of Big Piney, Wyo.; her grandchildren, Bryan Drain, Brandi Maxwell, Tucker Lind, Tara Lind, Milo Fear, Matty Fear; and her three brand new great-grandsons, Cade and Coy Scott and Jerrett Fear.

Graveside services were held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Columbus on Wednesday, March 29.

>Strasburg, N.D. -- Julia Feist, 87, of Strasburg died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Medcenter One Hospital in Bismarck, N.D.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Strasburg. The Rev. Leonard Eckroth will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Myers Funeral Home of Linton, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.

There will be a rosary service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Julia Hager was born Oct. 14, 1911, to Joseph and Margaret (Baumgartner) Hager on a farm near Strasburg. She attended a rural school.

She married Mike D. Feist on June 30, 1930, at Bismarck. They made their home on a farm southwest of Strasburg. In 1968 they moved into Strasburg. He died in 1973.

She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the St. Mary's Society and the Strasburg Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting.

Survivors include one son, Michael Feist of Bismarck; three daughters, Alvina (Andrew) Kramer of Bismarck, Shirley (William) Schwartzenberger of Lodi, Calif., and Jane Feist of St. Cloud, Minn.; four brothers, Pius Hager of Braddock, N.D., Andrew Hager of Strasburg, Joseph Hager of Bismarck and Eddie Hager of Timber Lake; six sisters, Mary Zacher, Alice Heidrich and Irene Heidrich, all of Strasburg, Helen Bachmeier of Bismarck, Barbara Campbell of Richmond, Calif., and Caroline Herner of Wilton, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, one daughter, three grandchildren and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be Joe Hager, Eddie Hager, Pius Hager, Andy Hager, Max Heidrich and Martin Bachmeier.

"...I am not currently in contact with anyone researching the Boschatzke line. I am trying to pin down my immediate relatives first before going down the branches of my aunts/uncles and their spouses. But every once in a while I get sidetracked when I see names that might connect... :-)

The only information I have to date on the Boschatzke/Hoeger line, comes from a Koblenz exodus questionnaire completed by my grand-uncle Andreas Bohlender at the Trebendorf camp on 13 February 1941.

Andreas was married to Berta Boschatzke (b. 7 July 1911 in Jakobstal). Berta's parents are listed as Wilhelm Boschatzke (b. 11 Aug 1879, Jakobstal) and Chrsitine Hille (b. 5 Oct 1886, Olgental). The questionnaire asks for the name and occupation of those who emigrated from Germany on both the husband and wife's side. On the wife's side, the questionnaire lists Johann Boschatzke (farmer) and Friedricka Hoeger. It indicates that they came through Poland and settled in Borodino, so there is a Boschatzke connection to Borodino.

Unfortunately, there are no dates listed as to when Johann and Friedricka settled there.
